What is the blueplaqueproject?

Blue Plaques (and brown, green, black, and red ones, to name but a few of the schemes) commemorate places where noteworthy people stayed, lived and died. Some of them also recall famous (or infamous) events.

The purpose of this site is to try and collect all of the plaques in London, and then to put the people and events they commemorate in context - with their time, their contemporaries, and location. London is a city of wonderful architecture, with many beautiful parks and gardens. Hopefully you'll be inspired to go out and look at some of the plaques that you'll find on this site. If you want to know which plaque pictures are missing, here's a list of missing plaques

The site contains 6 sections - people (broken down by profession), places (view all London boroughs, and see who lived where), context (focussing on buildings and areas), dates (view plaques by century) and conversations (where you can discuss anything plaque-related). Please feel free to edit all site content - it's a collaborative project, so your comments and additions will help it grow.
